  3.     DIED. Thomas Sopwith, 101, British aviation pioneer who
  4. designed fighter planes for three wars, including the legendary
  5. Sopwith Camel, which shot down Germany's Red Baron in World War I;
  6. in King's Somborne, England. Sopwith began flying in 1910, but his
  7. influence on aviation continues today. Britain's Harrier jump jet
  8. and even Snoopy's doghouse Sopwith Camel owe their existence to
  9. him.
